Last minute submission time! That's right, I'm off to school tomorrow, so I won't be able to take any more photos of my stuff! D:
So this is Izaya Orihara's switchblade, as seen in Durarara! (which is amazing, by the way, so go watch it!
)
Length [open]: 9.5"
Length [closed]: 5 3/4"
This is just a project that I started on a whim because I got bored while waiting for something else to dry. I've never done a weapon so small, and sanding the itty bitty blade was something of a challenge.
The blade doesn't flick out like a real one would, and is held in place by a short piece of hollow, cylindrical metal. The inside of the handle is lined with black foam to prevent the blade's paint from scraping off, and to keep the blade from dangling out when it's closed.
The rounded handle and the sloping design make it a very comfortable prop to hold. Now, I didn't come up with the pattern for this myself, I found it somewhere online, but I can't for the life of me remember where.
The little engraved lines on the handle were my own accidental design... I got a little too enthusiastic with the rasp, and cut too deeply on one side, so I whipped out the dremel and made it look like I meant to do it!
The dremeling on this is a bit rough, but hey, it was my first time.
Overall, I'm very happy with how this turned out. A simple, easy prop that didn't take much time or effort!
