Hardest Aspect
There were a few for this one, actually. The first was in designing the sheath... the sword is curved, so I had to modify the opening so that it would slide out without getting stuck. There's still a bit of resistance, but it's a pretty smooth draw.

The second was cutting out those jags at the hilt... I did them after I'd sanded the blade and done all the hilt sculpting... which was a stupid idea, upon reflection. They turned out pretty well, though, I think!

The final difficult aspect was the hilt overall, and it's still causing me some grief. I want to get my hands on a metal ring to hang the tassel from instead, but the problem is finding one soft enough to close without damaging the hilt. I tried it once already, and that went pretty badly, so I'm leaving it as is for now.

So I finally figured out how to get the images for this uploaded onto DA from my Mac. It didn't like the file type, for some reason, but I've got it working now, so all is well.

This was made to go with the pirate outfit I have, and I love the way it turned out. It's loosely based on the Russian shaska, though it has a considerably deeper curve.

The jags at the hilt are meant to catch on flesh and bone, making a wound much worse than it would be otherwise. It's not the most convenient sword for close-range fighting, especially on a ship, but it makes for decent flash when going on land.

I'm waiting for some decent leather to come my way to complete the hilt wrapping, but other than that (and the aforementioned gold ring), it's finished. The red colour came out slightly more pink in the photo than it is in real life, unfortunately.

Second attempt at sheath-building, though, and I think it went well! I used foam as the filler inside, and I covered more surface with it, too, so it works much better than my original experiments with Twinkledeath.

The level of curve makes it sit a bit oddly in the baldric I have, but other than that, I'm pleased with how it turned out.

I really love the sheath, I'm not sure why, but it's easily my favorite part. Probably because of all the work you put on the curves.
